This book was part of the “Feast Party” when Rebecca was in Kindergarten. I was hooked the minute the teacher started reading and sharing it.
Thanksgiving: A Time to Remember (Family Life Books)
If you buy only one Thanksgiving book this is the one to buy! Barbara Rainey does an amazing job teaching readers the history of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving celebrations.
She begins by explaining the origins of the Pilgrims and why they are leaving England. Then she recounts the voyage to the New World, the first winter in New England, and the first Thanksgiving celebration. Also included is a description of the role Native Americans (Squanto, Samoset, and Massasoit) played in the survival of the Pilgrims.
The story is broken up into two versions - grown-up and child. This is accomplished through two different sizes of type. We have been using it as our family read aloud at night. It has sooo many interesting facts and points. Also, there is an instrumental CD included.
It is AWESOME!!!
