Ashley and Volleyball

Ashley and her little friend Gabby decided to play volleyball on the same team.  They absolutely loved being on a team together that was actually good.  I couldn’t believe how good Ashley has gotten at volleyball!

So here is the order of games.

Rebecca plays first with the 7th grade-

Then Kaylee comes in for warm ups with the 8th grade, even though she looks like she is in 7th grade -

Kaylee’s long time friend Kess and her lead the warm-ups.  A bit of height difference.

Then Jerrica moves in when the games are over and the girls are changing.  She can’t wait to play volleyball in Middle School.  She has already made me commit to come and watch her.

Field Day

It was grandparents day in the morning and my parents came up.  I am SO mad that I didn’t get a single picture of them with the little girls!

The afternoon was filled with field day games, activities, and races.

Jerrica won the 100m dash, but I had to laugh as she turned around during the race to make sure that she was winning.  Her favorite event she told me was the rat race, where they would have to step on each other’s tails to pull them out.  My favorite part was their t-shirts.  All of the kids drew a self portrait and then they put them all together on the shirt.  I LOVE some of those pictures, they crack me up!

Ashley’s favorite was the soaking race.  They would have to squeeze out the water into a bucket in a relay line.  The first to fill the bucket would win.

She has such a great group of girls in her class!  A cute mom had tie dyed ALL of these shirts for the kids.  They were SO cute!

Homecoming

The kids or should I say the big girls dressed up all week long.  The boys did manage to dress up for Colorado day, probably because they were given the Colorado homecoming t-shirts.  Since they DID do that day, I will start with it…

Homecoming0Homecoming1Homecoming1B

This was mountain man day, but I only got a picture of Rebecca.  All of the four older wore flannel plaid shirts though.

Homecoming2B

This was throw back in time.  The boys opted for a “yesterday” look with jeans and a T whereas the girls went back a few decades.

Homecoming5Homecoming6

It was a fun week.  Jacob went with Alyssa to her homecoming dance.  The bon fire was the night of a home soccer game, which meant a HUGE crowd for the game.  Jacob helped with the Junior’s float.

When the week was over I realized that girls dress up and get WAY more into festivities than the boys!

Permit

Nathan got his permit while sporting a mohawk for his picture.

Permit

I laughed all day long.  We were up at the counter and the man asked Nathan if he wanted to be an organ donor.  Nathan said, “ya, sure”.  Then the man instructed Nathan to look through the eye machine and read line three.  Nathan did as he was told and then we sat down to wait our turn for his picture.

As soon as we sat down Nathan tells me, “Man, they sure worry about your eyes being good enough if you are going to donate them”.  I laughed the rest of the day!

Things that Matter Most

Yesterday was CRAZY!  I had a panic attack as I looked at my calendar that was filled.  Stephen was in charge of the joint activity for the youth in our church.  They were grilling pizza, which meant dough needed to be bought at Dion’s, and other things needed rounded up for that.  All of the kids had practices and activities.  How was I going to get all of them everywhere they needed to be?

Nathan had a game in Woodland Park.  As I talked with him after school he asked me if I was coming.  I told him that I didn’t think I could make this one and double checked that the bus would be both ways and I didn’t need to find a ride home for him.

As I left the school I thought to myself that I really should go to his game.  I hadn’t spent time with him lately.  SO massive texting and calling ensued so that all the stars would align and my kids could get where they needed to be.  Stephen assured me that he already had everything under control for his activity and I should go watch Nathan.

I drove up that beautiful drive to Woodland Park in calm, serenity thinking this is why I was supposed to go.

Then I sat at that gorgeous field with a spectacular orange and pink sunset thinking this is why I needed to drive up to enjoy that.  Here is a pic from my phone before the sunset of the beautiful mountains and forests that surround the field.  It truly was a beautiful setting!

Nathan's Game

I sat there chatting away with a sweet friend.  During our conversation, I thought of the words of wisdom she was sharing and KNEW this is why I was supposed to come up to Nathan’s game.

But then it happened.  Nathan did a couple of his tricky moves past two defenders and powered a goal in the upper 90.  There was no way the goalie could stop it.  Chis ran and picked up Nathan off the ground all silly like.  The boys gathered round him congratulating him.  Then I saw his smile and his glance up to me in the stands.  Priceless!  (I’m crying as I type this)  HE was the reason I was supposed to be there.  HE needed to know that I saw that.  HE needed to see me cheering him.

Sometimes we are supposed to be somewhere not for our benefit, but for that of another.  Yet in so doing we actually benefit ourselves.  SO grateful that I went last night!

Sports Pictures

Last week the kids had team pictures for their various sports.  I was teasing Nathan that I was coming to snap a couple of pictures behind the professional photographer while he was doing the Varsity team shot.  He said, “you wouldn’t!”  With a twinkle in my eye, I reassured him that I certainly would.  What is sad, is that he knows me.  He was actually scared I would because he wouldn’t put that past me to do.

We have a lot of kids and that costs a lot of money for sports.  There are the team fees, practice shirts, team dinner and bonding activities.  The girls even have volleyball secret sisters that we have to buy a little something for each day there is a game.  (Nathan tried convincing me that the high school soccer team had secret buddies so that I would buy treats for him to give to himself)  It all adds up and so we can’t afford pictures.  I buy the team picture but then do my own individual ones.  :)

You can’t get piggy back giggly ride pictures when you are in front of a professional photographer!  I’m glad I can’t afford pictures and can take them myself!

Love my two 2’s!!!!
