Seeds

It’s that time of year.  All of my cucumbers and squash are finally popping up.

Seed2

There are seeds that will germinate in less than five days, while others will take up to five months—or even longer!

That little seed has been in the dark, cold earth long enough.  I’m sure the warm sunshine, light, and abundance of room to grow feel good..

Sometimes don’t you feel like that seed?  AND just like that little seed, don’t you push and push upward until you break through that hard earth or whatever trial you are struggling with.

AND just when he thinks the world is all fine and dandy, the hail will come and pound, the sun will scorch him, and pests will invade him … it is never ending.  Yet he needs to keep on pushing upward!  :)

The Great Sand Dunes

Memorial Day we spent with my parents at the Sand Dunes.  It has been a long time since we have been down there, so long that Jerrica didn’t even recognize it.  The weather was perfect, the backdrop gorgeous, and there was plenty of fun to be had!

Digging and playing in the sand.  The kids would bury each other.

Stephen and the four older ones hiked to the top.  My parents and I tried to keep track of where they were with Stephen’s orange shirt.  However, squinting at the dots made it impossible as they got higher up.  Plus every time they would go in a valley of the dunes we had no clue what side they would climb out.

I loved sitting there in that beautiful weather visiting with my parents and watching the kids play this and that.  Our picnic was sandy of course but the day wonderful!!!

School is OUT

This month has been filled with concerts, banquets, end of season parties, field trips, special days, …...  It is all over and school is out!

On Thursday when the girls all got home we went through backpacks.  Saved special assignments and papers, then trashed the rest.  It felt so good throwing those backpacks in the washer and hanging them up to dry for next year!

Backpacks

I was amazed at the duct tape holding binders together.  I can’t believe Kaylee was actually able to participate in PE with these shoes.  They may not look that bad in the picture, but once you get a foot in them that hole is spread wide!  Her toes can even come out the side.  I guess we should’ve used duct tape on them!

Shoes

Jerrica helped me get the summer basket all set out.  It is filled with flip flops, summer camps, water balloons, science experiments, bubble gum with the hike book, treats, games, roller skating passes, library summer reading flyer …  I wish you could see all the fun stuff down in there.  The kids were so excited!

 Summer Basket

Stephen took the family out to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate the last day of school!

We also ended the night at the library to get a head start on the books the kids have to read for summer.  The piles of books made me smile!  Jerrica has been obsessed with this book.  She has never seen the movie.  “Mom, Fern just saved the baby pig from her dad’s ax”  “Mom he has a friend that’s a SPIDER!”  I love that toothless grin sharing her book with me!

Charlottes Web2

We have already done three fun activities that I need to blog and document.  I am so behind with all my picture folders!  BUT I’m going to catch up this summer!  Catch up with everything that has been waiting for me! :)

Random May

6th Banquet

Sixth Grade banquet and cross over to Middle School for Rebecca.

Beans

We planted our garden along with these cool bean seeds from my mom.

Rebecca won this giant jar of M&M’s from the library guessing contest.  We all enjoyed “her” win!

Guess M&M's

We were all at the school waiting for something.  It was on one of the last days of school and my kids found the Gaga ball pit.  A game ensued, followed by a picture of all my kids at TCA’s sign.

Cute sisters helped each other on a hike.  We went from tears to smiles in a matter of seconds.  I think these two probably weigh the same.

State Swim and Prom Same Night

Somehow we didn’t look at the calendar.  State Swim was clear up on the north side of Denver and Mormon Prom at Cathedral Pines was on the same night.

Jacob had asked Alyssa a month before with a Fanta 2 liter that said “Wanta go to Prom”.  We bought the suit, bow tie, flowers, … everything and just hoped and prayed that he would make it back for the Prom.

He swam three events at State.  Two relays and then the 50 butterfly…

SOOO proud of my Jacob!  He showered after his events and then got ready in the van on the way back to the Springs.  I sat there thinking that a girl could NEVER do this before a Prom, yet a boy could pull it off.

I’m sure he was exhausted for Prom.  They played games after the dance at Alyssa’s.  We had to have him back up at State the next morning.
