Such a sweet team of boys filled with incredible talent! I admit that I don’t care for watching soccer, but so enjoyed watching Nathan’s team this year.
They would end each practice with arms around each other. They would start each game with arms around each other. Micah, the goalie, would stand in the middle before each game chanting, “who do you fight for? .. BROTHERS, who do you play for? … BROTHERS……who do you win for?…” With each question the team would get louder and louder yelling BROTHERS.
My other favorite thing before games was how they would all line up for the National Anthem with their hand on their heart and the other on their teammate in front of them.
From sleepovers, to team dinners, to hanging out, to crazy team haircuts, these boys were close with each other.
The night before the state championship, the cheerleaders came over and decorated the yard. Nathan still has the sign in his bedroom. They even left a sweet bag of treats.
The next day they boarded the bus filled with excitement.
They went into the final undefeated against another team that was undefeated and filled with Seniors (we have a very young team). The afternoon had all the makings for a good game. It was played in Denver at the Rapids Stadium. The teams came out to this grand music and were introduced in front of a full crowd.
Cute high school girls made signs for the families of players. Here was Nathan’s that was held loud and proud!
The game was tied at half. Then they lost on two free penalty kicks in the box. Both calls were questionable and I hated having them lose on goals like that. I wish that they would have been two strong goals that were deserved. Yet, that is the game of soccer!
These boys are AWESOME though!!! State 4A second place this year, but will be champions next year.
