Home Theater

I LOVE doing this because the kids clean like crazy trying to earn tickets AND we don't spend a bundle at the theater on tickets and treats (Believe me EIGHT people at the theater adds up).  I bought generic tickets at Wal-Mart for $2 which have lasted and will last forever.  The morning of our theater I start handing out tickets for various completed jobs.  It amazes me how quickly things get cleaned and done.

I then set out my theater concessions.  They have to have so many tickets to actually see the movie.  Then pay for various treats AND for pillows and blankets to snuggle in and on.
Home Theater It's fun to see how the kids spend their tickets.

At any rate the kids sure enjoy this, AND I LOVE having the house all clean.  What do you do for your family movie nights?

We do themed dinner and movie nights. This is a great idea, teaches them about earning and how much things "cost" as well as motivation to accomplish Saturday chores with a nice reward at the end.

Great idea! I want to try this with my kids. We love to read the book and then find a movie that has the same story line. Right now for movie night we are into musicals.

I never thought of making them EARN it?! I will rent a movie on redbox and dget the movie style candy from walmart with juice boxes and micro popcorn, then they all get there blankets and pillows. I love movie nights at home. I enjoy it more, and I actually get to watch the movie! You have so many great ideas!

I don't know how you do it? This is just another great idea I can't wait to use for my family. We do lots of "movie parties" as we call them, but how smart to have them earn tickets! I am filing this at thecraftersfilebox.com.

Thanks for sharing as always!

Awesome idea! We just may have to try this. Except I'll be sad if one of the kids doesn't have enough to "buy" a snuggle blanket. Of course, then she'd just try to snuggle with me under mine. ha ha

I love this idea! We earn points in our house for completed chores that buy priveleges, like tv and computer, but I never thought to apply it to a movie night. Great idea, especially with the popcorn containers, pop and movie candy. Your blog is one of my favorites, btw.

I do this in my classroom. The students earn a fake dollar for behavior each day, for homework, good deeds, etc. It's usually for 2-4 weeks. They get an envelope in my room to keep their money. It costs a certain amount for the movie. I usually have 1 or 2 that have to go to another room and do work but they learn the next time this comes around. Then I have nachos, hotdogs, chips, popcorn, soda, capri suns, pickles, candy bars, and fruit roll ups with various prices. I decorate the ceiling with Christmas lights, and I make a canopy for the concession stands. We cover the windows so that the room gets really dark. I use a projector to show the movie on the wall. I decorate the wall with black paper and hang a sheet so that it looks like a screen. They love this activity.

My kids already do a fair number of chores so those "the whole house needs work" days are so difficult. What a great way to reward them without bringing money into it! Thanks for the inspiration. Off to Walmart to find tickets for my mix of six!

Thanks for this brilliant idea! We did it on a rainy day last weekend and it was a huge hit. Really enjoyed tidying and sorting toys and mess with my 4 year old son, and he was very very excited to have earned enough tickets to get a giant sized (actually quite small) bowl of popcorn. Success!
